Unleash Your Talents : “Zoom” on your public speaking skills!

Unleash Your Talents : “Zoom” on your public speaking skills!

#Develop - Unleash Your Talents workshop on Thursday, 18th June 2020.

This workshop brought together about ten participants, who began by sharing a photo illustrating how they feel when they speak in public. From energy to a feeling of closure, the theme of the body was launched! (Thursday June 18th, 2020 - Online via Zoom)

Then we did an online brainstorming on "failed" public speaking. We talked about stage fright, the impression that words escape us, the feeling that the audience is missing the point…

From there, we laid the foundations for a reflection on the 3 dimensions of public speaking: the body (posture, energy, voice, gaze), the heart (emotion), and the brain. After a theoretical passage by Albert Mehrabian, who underlines the radical importance of the body (and the voice) in the transmission of the message, we analysed some videos showing the capital role of silence. From De Gaulle to Obama, via Lucchini and Emma Thompson!

We then worked on the precision of the gaze, through exercises of reading face to camera: a good way to become aware of this bridge of communication, and of the possibility of "muscling" one’s gaze, of making it a vector of meaning.

To enter the field of emotion, we observed how Barack Obama does storytelling: concrete details, lived experience, great meaning. After a passage through the neurosciences (emotions / limbic brain), each participant was invited to test a micro-speech based on authenticity, through 3 sentences starting with : I am someone who.../I would like that.../I am convinced that...

A good way to exercise again one's gaze, one's articulation, the virtue of silence, and emotion!
